How Invisalign Works
When you think about orthodontics, traditional metal braces with brackets and wires probably come to mind. This orthodontic system is temporarily bonded to your teeth to remain there the entirety of your treatment. Invisalign clear aligner therapy works a bit differently by using subtle, removable retainers that slip over your teeth. In this blog post, we go over how Invisalign works and why you should consider CarolinasDentist if you’re thinking about getting Invisalign.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign clear aligner therapy is an inconspicuous alternative to traditional braces for patients with minor to moderate misalignment. The aligners can correct crookedness, gaps, overcrowding, and bite issues if you wear them for at least 20-22 hours a day.
Every two weeks, you will receive a new set of aligners to help reposition your smile. Since the aligners are removable, you are able to brush and floss your teeth as you normally would and enjoy meals without having to make special adjustments to your diet. You do need to take them out whenever you eat or drink anything other than water, and clean them before putting back in your mouth.
Invisalign is best for older teens and adult patients. Patients must remember to wear their aligners as much as possible, keep their aligners clean and protected, and keep their teeth clean.
Invisalign Process
First, you will meet with one of our Invisalign providers for a consultation to determine if Invisalign is the right option for you. If it is, we will take impressions of your teeth and have your first set of aligners made. You will switch to a new set of aligners in a few weeks to continue moving your teeth. At your checkups, we will evaluate your progress and make any necessary shifts in your treatment plan.
The timeline for Invisalign depends on your specific case, but treatment typically lasts between 12 and 18 months.
